For many Muslim women, it is a big
challenge to combine between modesty and
fashion in their dress. Some hijabis go so far
following the latest fashion trends regardless
its consistency with Islamic dress codes.
Others would be so strict believing that in
order to be modest; a woman should be
covered in black from head to toe.

Question:
Do you think that a religious Muslim woman can still be
fashionable and accommodate the Islamic dress code so
that she looks fashionable but moderate or is it a rule
that the Islamic dress and the fashionable dress can
never meet?

Samples of readers’ comments:
Katarzyna Trzaska Ishaq: Islam tells us to dress
modestly, cover ourselves and not display our figures
and beauty. It does not tell us that the clothes we wear
have to be plain black and it has to be abaya. We can
still cover ourselves and look nice and fashionable
that's what i think.

Mohammad Asif Shaik: If a women understand the
Modesty of Hijjab then she will never think about being
fashionable with Hijjab... May Allah best us all to Right
Path.

Nadia Muneer Baig: If she looks fashionable then she
would be attracting men... so I think it's not right...
Salihah Hina: A woman is commanded to observe parda
veil by Allah in the Quran so it is up to her to please
Allah or people around her by following fashionable
people to impress others according to my personal
experience I feel comfortable and proud wearing abaya
whatever the world does I don't care even if people
don't like my dress becz this is my perfect dress code I
love it.

Abdul Kareem: Women were given dress code because
nobody shouldn't get attracted by her.

Swechchha Shrestha: I don't think fashion and modesty
go hand in hand. The main purpose of hijabi is to initiate
modesty but fashionable clothes no matter how modest
people think they are even though it covers up a girl
fully still attracts attention. I doubt if our prophet
(Pbuh) was alive today he would allow printing our holy
places names on a T-shirt in a glamorous way. I don't
wear hijab but In Shaa Allah it will come in time.. May
Allah guide us all in the correct path.

Shukri Ibrahim: She can be fashionable to her husband
within the house or in private. But when leaving the
house she should be modest and not something that
looks attractive.

Elin Nizam: Maybe yes but at least wear those kinds
with long sleeves.i
