Beauty Tip- Ways to Care For Your Skin This Hot Season

The month of March has ushered us officially into the Heat Season, brace yourselves beauties, hot days are upon us! I remember growing up in Jos, Plateau state, years back and how we viewed Fans and ACs as home decor items, hot or cold season, they were hardly ever used. But then I got a job and was posted to a North Western State sharing a border with Niger Republic, HOLY LASMOKEY! The heat was insanely out of this world. I experienced first hand and also for the very first time, Prickly Heat! I practically begged to be posted out of there and was lucky to get posted to the FCT. Did I just say lucky? Hmmm.... Coming to Abuja was a great relief, but due to the sensitive nature of my skin, I experienced again for the first time, Heat Rashes! It was a really scary moment in my life. The rashes were so severe that I contemplated screening for HIV just to be sure (Lol). I have since found ways to cope with the heat and so today i'm sharing with you some tips on how to care for your skin this Hot season.

  • Sunscreen- Who says sunscreens are meant for only the whites? We take for granted the nature of our dark coloration especially with the fact that we don't always see the effects of sunburn on our skin, that however doesn't imply we blacks are exempted from the damaging rays of the sun. The sun's ultraviolet rays can damage anyone's skin in as little as 15 minutes and this apply to skin of all colors. Sunscreens come in many forms, including creams, lotion, gels, ointment or spray so whichever you decide to buy, make sure to choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UV-A and UV- B rays and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. While a pricey brand might feel or smell good,  it is not necessarily more effective than a cheaper product. Incase you have problems finding out the best sunscreen for your skin, dont worry, i will do a post on sunscreen within the week.
  • Allow your skin to breathe- Apply make up as little ad possible this season so your skin can breathe.  When the chemical on you cosmetics meets the sun, the result can be damaging. When at home or driving long distances give your skin a break, it will thank you for being free.

  • Wear Protective Clothing- When leaving the  house, go along with sun shades, a hat or  an umbrella. Sun shades protect the sensitive skin around the eyes and in turn prevents it from wrinklind and premature aging, hats and umbrellas on the other hand protect your skin from that damaging rays of the sun

  • Stay out of the Sun between the hours of 10am and 3pm. Sun rays are most damaging to your skin at these times so avoid it and if you must, dont be under it for so long.

  • Drink plenty of water- Dehydration causes your skin to lose its glow, So drink plenty of water to maintain a radiant skin. Also include healthy fruits and vegetables in your diet.

What other ways do you care for your skin in the hot season, Mind to share?
